During the holidays there are children who are placed in foster care without family and friends. We have asked the kids what they want for Christmas and many of the older children have asked for Target gift certificate card (any amount) and the little ones have asked for stuffed animals (please bring new unwrapped, no used toys accepted). Please bring a gift to our December meeting and share your blessings with children who are less fortunate.

CASA serves children who, for their own protection, have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care. Judges refer the most serious cases of child abuse and neglect to CASA so that one volunteer can consistently spend time with one child, building a relationship and ensuring that each child is receiving the support and attention he or she needs and deserves while going through the foster care process.

Dr. Nehzat Farnoody, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist with a specialty in Cross-Cultural Psychology. Dr. Farnoody received her undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Iran. In 1969 she was accepted in to the Masters program in Clinical Psychology at Kansas University and immigrated to United States with her family.

After receiving her Ph.D. in 1975 from USIU (an APA accredited program) in San Diego, she received an invitation from Tehran University and returned to Iran where she taught at JSU from 1975 to 1980, and served as an Associate Professor, Chair of Psychology Department, Director of Clinical Counseling Center and was an active member of the University Assembly. Dr. Farnoody has over 30 years of clinical experience, and has provided services to the Iranian families living in Iran and United States as well as other parts of the world. Dr. Farnoody is a founding member and vice president of the Iranian-American Psychological Association.

Dr. Farnoody has presented at over 200 seminars, conferences, and lectures on psychological and sociocultural topic such as: Successful Relationships, Parenting.

Dr. Farnoody is the author of over 100 articles in popular magazines in Farsi (Persian Language) and English, and has produced several CDs on topics such as ABCs of parenting, Emotional Vitamins, Self-Esteem, From Narcissism to Love and Intimacy and more… Dr. Farnoody is the author of the popular book ‘ABCs of Parenting’, and has translated several books from Farsi to English such as ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’, ‘Todd’, and ‘Crisis’.

Nias announcement :HAMED HADDADI HOOPS CAMP (Sep 12 & 13)

On behalf of NIAS we would like to cordially invite your children to Hamed Haddadi Hoops Camp on September 12 & 13. This event will inspire, motivate and educate them beyond that to which a textbook may provide.

This event is spearheaded by Hamed Haddadi of the Memphis Grizzlies. This is the 1st Annual Hamed Haddadi Weekend Basketball Camp in which the kids get to spend 2 days with the 1st Iranian NBA Player, Hamed Haddadi, plus 8 other coaches.

Date: Saturday September 12^th & Sunday September 13^th

Time: 9AM-3PM Saturday & Sunday,

Cost: $45 per participant (including free t-shirt and meet-and-greet/pictures/autographs with all players and coaches), however, kids that are referred through NIAS will be admitted at NO CHARGE.

Did You Know:

Kayaking has a long and interesting history. Archaeologists have found evidence of kayaks dating back more than 4,000 years! Kayaks were originally used in the arctic of North America for hunting. In fact, the word “kayak” means hunter’s boat. It was an extremely dangerous way to get a meal… getting knocked out of your kayak by an angry walrus into sub-freezing waters with no thermal protection was a “game over” scenario.

Tips:

If you’re going to be kayaking in a double or triple kayak, it’s good to keep in mind when choosing your seat, that the person in the back will have the most control over steering, so the strongest goes in the back.
